Pumpkin Carving

We've gone our entire marriage without having to carve a single pumpkin.
I did carve one for James's first Halloween, but I threw it away because it was so ugly.
Even last year, we got away with drawing pictures on our pumpkins instead of having to deal with the gunk, guts, and blades...
Gone are those days and there is no way James was going to let us pass up this "delightful" tradition for another year. Mike and I kept trying to pawn the job onto the other individual. In the end I'm not sure who lost.
Two days before Halloween I started out as a good wife and mother.
It lasted for maybe five minutes. At which point I cut my finger, looked at the "rescue helicopter" that did not look like a rescue helicopter, and threw in the towel. James senses the severity in these situations, and he knew that the only way pumpkin carving would continue would be if he took it upon himself to finish the job-- which he LOVED!
Using our little carving kit (which is useless, by the way) he proceeded to carve a nose on the Jack-o-lantern I made on the back side. He felt so big. He was so careful. He didn't cut himself. He loved the pumpkin "guts." And he was happy.

The Silver Lining:
1) It was a gorgeous day outside. Which also means that we didn't have to do this in the house = less mess.
2) It wasn't long until Mike came home from work-- he was able to finish the job-- and clean up the mess :)
3) Andrew was perfect. He usually is. He just crawled around in the grass. Ate dirt. And Smiled.
4) Our boys think we're wonderful. They had a blast. James got to show off his pumpkin on Halloween. Their holiday was complete.
