We Finished!

Mike and I ran our first half marathon today!! Yay for us! Although we woke up with quite the surprise of 4 inches of snow on the ground (in our neighborhood) it turned out to be a beautiful morning and the perfect temperature to run in. The course was a gorgeous run through the gardens and golf course at Thanksgiving Point. We loved it and hope to make it a tradition. The most impressive thing to me is that Mikey beat me by 23 minutes without any training whatsoever and with 4 miles being his maximum distance up until today. Okay, who am I kidding, I didn't train much either though 8.5 was my farthest run.
It's been a few hours since our race and we are sore. Mikey is currently icing his knees. Ama watched the boys last night/this morning and got a kick out of our geriatric bodies. We both walked in the house limping and unable to move. She laughed and said that's how she feels everyday. Not so funny when we have to borrow her walker for church tomorrow.

Other highlights from the week:
-- We went to the tulip festival twice this week. We love the gardens, especially the kids discovery garden. We spent one day with a good childhood friend, Megan and her two boys. The boys loved racing boats, rolling down the hills, playing in the water fountains, and running away from us!
The second day we went with Ama and enjoyed feeding fish, admiring the firetruck and ambulance that came for geriatric day, and eating a delish lunch at the Trillis.
-- I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Royal Wedding. My boys on the other hand... I waited to watch most of it during nap time and James was NOT okay when we got to Shelly's house only to see the wedding was still on! Why is it that my boys can watch Lightning McQueen for 10 hours straight and can't even watch Princess Kate for ONE minute??? I guess I wouldn't have it any other way.
-- Got together with our cousins for dinner and a wedding party. Boys love their cousins and at one point in the evening James came up to me and said, "I don't want to leave."
-- James is really into Hummers and has us rewind Cars over and over during the two Hummer parts.
-- The day has come for Mr. Daniel. He has finally learned to escape from his crib. Luckily he climbs down on to the rocking chair, so if it becomes a problem the chair will be moved to a new corner of the room.
-- I have a new obsessive compulsion. There are always new ones and my sister and I get a kick out of sharing them with each other. My most recent is that I cannot sleep with my hair down. It has to be up and out of my face and off my neck.
-- I bought my first songs on iTunes this week (I know, I know. Welcome to the new century) and it's kind of addicting. I really have to limit myself. My purchases were so worth it though when I was about to keel over during the run and a new song came on. I love my new playlist!

  1. Yeah and congrats to both of you! That is so awesome and amazing that you can do that; not me. I'm jealous, but not enough to go out and do anything about it.
