It has been a long, cold, wet spring. Which I'm grateful for because Utah needs the water and everything is turning so green. Nonetheless, it's been too yucky to spend much time outside-- up until this week that is. Finally, we've been able to play in the grass, our backyard, parks, go for walks without the rain cover on the stroller, and of course spend half our days at the Thanksgiving Point Gardens. One day Aunt Shelly and cousin Taylor met up with us and another we had a neighborhood get together with 8 moms and 17 kids. Have I mentioned how much we love that place?
This week:
-- James hates to have his hair cut! He's scared of the clippers and how loud they are. He has to sit still for ever. And he dreads having his hair washed afterwards in the bathtub. Well, the boys were past due so I finally cut their hair this week. Even after all the torture, I went to pick him up from the "hair cutting seat" when he gave me a big hairy hug and said, "Thank you for my haircut." He is so tender.
-- I'm amazed at the Automatic love I have for people who love my kids and who are nice to them. James has a friend with an older brother in kindergarten. I love to have them over because the oldest is so nice to Daniel. I love the kid and everyone else who brings happiness into my boys' lives.-- Last week Daniel learned how to crawl out of his crib. I thought he was using the rocking chair to help and that I could always remove the chair if it became a problem. Oh no, he can full on escape from the crib and there is nothing I can do to stop it. Needless to say, it's been a long week as Daniel will crawl out any time he is awake. So much for being my super sleeper.
-- The boys and I stopped by my old school this week and had lunch with a few of my favorite fellow teachers. James is so excited to go to school so he can color, run around the playground, and play with the "transportation" counting blocks.
-- James spelled his first word yesterday: "D-A-N"
-- I Love this stage in the life of our family. The boys are best friends. We have no set plans in the days (one reason I'm not rushing preschool). We play at the park, go on walks, get together with friends. I have an excuse for the house to be a mess and cluttered. I get a kick out of finding cars stashed in secret places throughout the house (mostly of James' doing to hide from Daniel). The boys still call my pita chips cookies and pound my nasty healthy-of-healthy pancakes with red syrup (jam) on top. They adore their parents and still think we're funny.
-- My Mother's Day gift came early. Yesterday while driving to cousin Matt's baseball game, out of the bleau James said, "I love you mommy." Our boys melt my heart and I am so Grateful for the gift and privilege it is to be their Mommy.
Happy Mother's Day to my own Mommy and to all of the Wonderful Mothers out there!
