If I can't have my Girl...

then I am going to enjoy dressing my Boys.

Mike refers to all of our babies as "Robin's Doll's" and he's right. I love playing dress-up with them.

This week in a boy-filled house:

-We have been watching Disneyland rides on the iPad. Who knew that people filmed the rides then posted them onto youtube? As much as I resisted youtube for years, it really is a very cool resource for me as a mom of curious boys over which topics I am clueless. Example: how do I teach them about harvesters? I don't know the first thing about large farm equipment. Not Youtube-- there are all kinds of videos of harvesters gathering corn, wheat, etc. They want to learn about fire trucks? Helicopters, trains, lego structures, disneyland rides? No problem, it's all there, right at our fingertips. Frightening as it it, I'm lucky to be a mom with google and youtube to answer questions, rather than a 15 year old Britannica encyclopedia set written in a form of English only an editor could understand.
Anyway, the boys have enjoyed watching and reliving rides.

-James LOVES his preschool. Loves it. So do I. He comes home so happy and feeling so big. I love to see the fun activities they come home with. Last Thursday Daniel, Andrew and I walked to the school to pick him up (it's like a mile away). Here's a picture of Daniel on his "balance bike" which has no pedals and of James flying his "butterfly wings." His teachers are creative, fun, and teach on a four year old's level.

- This is a pic of my "Farm Kids" swimming in the lake at an Elder's Quorum activity. Initially it was just going to be dinner and a few games in the grass. However, we got there early, and water is catnip to my boys. They inched their way in...

Until they looked like this (And then all the kids wanted to get in the water):

-The boys played a lot of legos and Cars. Daniel's two favorite character from Cars are Mississile (Finn McMissile) and Francheksko (Franchesco). He carries them around everywhere he goes and he sleeps with them at night.
Here are two Lego creations-- both of which I "helped" with. The first is an Igloo because James needed to bring something for show and tell that started with the letter "i". We had nothing. No Indians, Iguanas, or ice cream. The only other thing I could thing of was a cube of ice that would have long melted by the time it came to share. Finally I asked James if he'd like to draw and igloo or go to the store and get some sugar cubes to make one. Out of desperation to get out of going to the store, he suggested we build one out of Legos. Smart kid.
The very next day Daniel dropped the igloo while carrying it around the house. Some of it was still in tact and rather than building a duplicate, we kept what we had and built a temple instead.
I am quickly learning just how much I enjoy "boy toys" such as Lego, blocks, and cars. I'm thinking that for Christmas I may have to ask Santa for a pick girly Lego set including tables, tea sets, and flower boxes.

-James finally made it to his first soccer game!
The first one he was sick.
The next weekend was no soccer due to Labor Day.
The 2nd and 3rd games were spent in California.
Finally, he made it to one and had no clue what was going along... why lie? None of the kids did.
He did make contact with the ball a few times and that was good enough for him.
Luckily, Katelyn was there to cheer him on, although playing on the playground with her was all he really cared to do.

- Mike finally has a hobby where he is able to get away from the family once in a while. He has now had two overnighters away where he is still busy, but not with kids. His new thing is volunteer timing with the new Utah high school mountain biking league. This week he was in Logan. This picture is of him still decked out in his "official" gear, right after getting home and the boys attacking him.
That night they also invented a new game. It originates from tractor tipping in the movie "Cars."
One boy is Mater. One is Lightning. Mike is Frank. They tip the play four-wheeler and he then chases them.
Upon finishing, Daniel in his cute little high voice said, "Please do more 'gain."

-Daniel is so my little buddy. We are LOVING our time together when James is at school and Andrew naps. He feels so important and I think we've both needed this 1:1 time to just enjoy each other. He's the cutest little goofy thing... this morning's quote from him came from the bathroom: "I did go poopie and peepee. Look! It is a nana (banana) poop!" He is barely 3 and pretty much potty trained-- I say pretty much because I'm too lazy to deal with any underwear accidents, hence still in pull-ups. He's so good, though, and who would've guessed that Skittles, M&M's, and Starbursts would do the trick?

  1. I so love being able to read your family updates so I know what's happening with you all and how big (and adorable) your boys are. Thanks for fun pictures too!
