All I know is Boys. I hear girls are different. I hear they take care of their toys, sit in one spot to brush their doll's hair, and can be really emotional. A girl probably wouldn't be the first to go outside in 50* March weather, remove the lid from the sandbox, and manage to climb inside and get soaking wet. We took our nursery class outside last Sunday, during which time one of the girls asked: "Why are we out here?" I don't think my boys would ever, EVER ask that question. Ever.
Have I mentioned that I LOVE my Boys! They are so fun! And Funny! They do the goofiest and most creative things that never would've crossed my mind. They are unassuming, silly, physical, and really happy. I'm so glad that I've had boys to ease me into parenthood and to boost my self-esteem. I know I'll love my daughters, but somehow I don't think they'll get the same reactions that these little animals get... BTW, just this morning James took it upon himself to get dressed after bath time. This is where and how I found him:
All in all, it's been a fun week. Our washing machine died--again. We had a repair guy come out and try to convince me that our no name washer should last 20 more years, as long as we do this $480 repair (that cost only $120 online). Needless to say, that after 3 repairs already done on it, wet clothes from backyard adventures, smelly Daniel laundry, and the usual laundry piling up and permeating the house with odor, we've decided to break down and buy a new one. Thankfully, after hours in hardware and home furnishing stores I think we've decided on one...
Other fun things for the week:
- We had some gorgeous days which allowed us to go outside for jogs, backyard fun, and playing with friends. This was good, because my ward gave us a challenge 5 weeks ago to read the Book of Mormon in 6 weeks. Last week I was barely half way through and had a lot of ground to make up. Which I was able to do during our walks/ jogs. Also good since our 13 mi race is coming up next month.
- I did an "unofficial" triathlon on Saturday and Loved it! So fun to get back in the pool, and then on my bike :) Also did a Zumba class which reminded me just how fun that is!
- Took the boys to their first Movie in the theater. It was a Party! Ama's neighborhood rented out a theater for the resident's and families. Free popcorn, candy, soda, prizes, and fun. Plus, it couldn't have been a better movie: Tangled. Kids were scared at first (James Bawled at the top of his lungs when we first walked in-- as everyone was hating us and disgusted that we would be so inconsiderate to bring the beast), but after us shoving popcorn and treats in his mouth, he got over it and warmed up to the idea quicker than we had hoped. By the end of the movie he was wanting more movie, more treats, and more fun. Hence, why we repeated the movie/ treat night tonight before bed.
- Daniel both embarrassed and humbled us at church today. Mike and I have both been pretty critical and judgmental of parents who would dare let their child go up on the stand during Sacrament meeting. Well, before we know it he is heading up there. James would never have gone up there on his own. Ever. It's like he has this imaginary leash tied to him which keeps him close to us at all times. Not Dan. He takes off. And he took off, though I don't think either of us thought he'd really do it. Well, he did and he had no intentions of coming back to us. So, finally after the initial shock and drawing straws, Mike went up there (in front of our ward of like 1,000) and got him. So, can't believe that my child would dare do such a thing!
- James peed in the toilet Twice today!!! Hooray! We are making progress. Could it be because of the party we have after each time? Now, he goes into the bathroom and says: "I want a treat" then sits down and tries to get something out. I sent Mike a link to this crazy philosophy of potty training called the Naked and $75 Method where you just let the kid run around naked, have his accidents, and then get your carpets cleaned. I thought it sounded ridiculous, awful and disgusting! Well, today out of default that's sort of what happened, and it's also the first time he has ever used the potty! So, who knows, maybe that'll be our new method :) though we would have to rename it the Naked, Nasty, and $150 Method.
love the pics!!! We should play sometime soon!! I am now home during the week, so we should have a play date with the boys!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your blog...as always! I never thought the "naked and $75.00" would ever become a promoted method of potty training but I know it worked for Shad, though it was more "naked and housebroken" method as it was summer and he loved being outdoors. Only challenge was getting clothes back on him as he discovered the delight of living naked and unencumbered by pants. Could that be Daniel??? The movie was so much fun...I think you and Mike being so excited about winning the prizes was one of my highlights...you were so cute!
ReplyDeleteI love your boys! I am working on my picture magnets and discovered I was missing a recent picture of Daniel. So, I used the one of him in his sandbox. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteSo loved the pictures and particularly the description. I'm so glad to be through with that stage of my life - but enjoy hearing about others accomplishments. Love, Ginny
ReplyDeleteBoys are fun, but not all girls are 'girly' - Elly and Cailey both love being outside and getting muddy/wet/mucky too! We've had some nicer weather this week too and ALL/Any of my kids would rather be outside than inside.
ReplyDeleteI haven't used the 'completely' NAKED method of potty training, but the warmer weather and 'bottomless' (or literally just cotton knickers) does make a mess - but they get the hint! And with a good collection of disinfectants and carpet cleaners, I haven't paid $75 yet! Good luck!! Every kid and every mum is different and finds the way that works for them!
Love your blog!
