A few of my Favorite Things

Thanksgiving Point at Christmas time (and at anytime). They have lights, trees, and beautiful decorations. We love to eat dinner at the deli and then walk around. This time we took a trolley ride through Electric Park and saw all of their lights. We also got to see reindeer!

The Christmas season with boys who love it! They love the lights, treats, Christmas trees and decorations, stories, Santa, and the Nativity. They love hear the Christmas story and see pictures of baby Jesus. It rings true to them and James lights up whenever we walk by a nativity. We finally found stockings we all love, James' being a train and Daniel's Rudolph. The boys get to see Santa next week and we are preparing him now to know what to say. Can anyone guess what he is going to ask for??? A Fire Truck. Big and Red. He thinks that's amazing considering we hardly ever buy him new toys.

Mint Fudge. I've made it the last two years and plan to continue. It's wonderful.

Our Neighbors and Neighborhood. Other than at BYU, I've never been surrounded by such amazing and high caliber people. They're super friends, parents, and leaders in the community. Thy are fun to spend time with and are good examples for us and the boys. Last night we had our annual Neighborhood progressive dinner which is always a fun time to visit with people we don't always have the chance to.

Our Weekly Date Night. This last year Mike and I have become much more possessive of our date night. It's so fun to get out, away from the kids, and just the two of us. Mike is a blast and I love being with him!

Ama. Is. Amazing. Last night she babysat our boys. For her it's not even babysitting--it's playing, bonding, and creating lasting memories with two of her favorite boys. She made a rice crispy treat train with them, letting them play in the frosting and candy, and make a total mess of her house. She loves them and they absolutely adore her. They both came home feeling so special and loved, and beaming from ear to ear. Aunt Maggie said this about her just today: "Your mother is an amazing person and I am so proud to call her my sister. She not only is a terrific mother but wonderful friend too, so she just has to be the epitome of a grandmother, You know the  saying - look in the dictionary for the word grandmother and you will see her picture."

This new child swap that a friend and I have been doing for a few weeks now. Due to moms having to go back to work, our weekly playgroup has fizzled. There are now just two of us left and we have ended up watching each other's boys while the other can have two hours to herself. I take Mondays and go to a Yoga class while she takes Tuesdays and runs errands.

My new spin class at the Rec center. This month is the first time I've ever taken one and wow does it ever kick my rear. My favorite part is how much I sweat. It's awesome.

James tried skiing for the first time today-- and loved it. We got the boys ski gear for the year and are looking forward to taking them skiing this season. James loves to walk around in his ski boots and begs me to wear them anytime he thinks about them.

My brand new camera! My camera has been slowing down-- a lot-- this last year and it's been driving me crazy. We started researching new ones and concluded that what I have is what I want. I'd already taken it to camera stores in the valley and no one could help me out. So, finally I called the maker and asked them what they could do. Well, the guy on the phone was extremely helpful, he walked me through resetting my camera to it original settings (much more complicated than what the camera store tried) and viola! a new camera for Christmas! It works like it did when Mike first surprised me with it and I am just as excited about it now as I was three years ago. Yay!

Cute quotes:
While looking at the gospel art book in Sacrament meeting, James said, "I want to get baptized." I think what he's really saying is, 'I want to get out of here and go swimming in that fun water!'

As everyone knows, I am an extremely high maintenance individual who spends hours in front of the mirror everyday... so, on the mornings when I come downstairs in somethings other than my pajama pants, James gets really excited and says, "Yay, car ride!!!"

Whenever we see a picture of or drive past a temple James says: "Mommy. Daddy. Temple" Today he added a "yup." after it. Pretty cute.

James and Daniel have both been sick today and demanding of all my attention. I decided pancakes would probably be the best option for their dinner. And I guess it was because when I brought James one while lying on the couch he said: "Oh Yum! Thank you Mommy." ... and that melted my heart making all of the nursing worth it. He melts my heart.

  1. That last comment about you getting dressed and what your kids think...so do mine. When I am curling my hair and putting on make-up, tanner will say, "it's not sunday mom. are you and dad going on a date?" If i say no, he gets super confused and says, "why are you getting dressed then?" sad but true.

I love this post. I think I might have to copy it. I love what you write in your blog. I love reading it and it will be so nice to have those things recorded. I get lazy and just post pictures. I
