"Terrific" Two's

James is a two year old.

I love this boy.
He is an emotional roller coaster.
One minute he's hugging Daniel and the next he's hitting him.
He wants PB&J until he has it and then he wants chicken nuggets.
He wants to be outside ALL day long--and when he's not he makes me want him out all day long.
He will not go to bed/ sleep anymore. Melatonin has been our life saver for the last two weeks.
He needs a nap so bad but fights them like no other.

And yet, he is so fun.
He is learning and using new words everyday.
He is exploring and getting to know this world and his surroundings.
Everyday we get to know him and his cute little personality more.
His hugs and his kisses are heaven.
The first thing he does when Daniel wakes up in the morning is squeal and full body hug him.
His interests come out more and more (ok, so they've always been cars, tractors, trains, buses, etc)
He can do new things everyday and is so proud of himself when he does.
For the most part, he tries to be good.

So, overall, we're getting through what Mike (entirely seriously) calls the "Terrific Two's."

  1. What a handsome little man! You are so glad to see them reaching new milestones, yet sad they are growing up so fast! So glad your first journey through the "two's" has been terrific! It must be your exceptional parenting skills!

  2. We say Terrific Two's as to convince ourselves that they really aren't that terrible... but they kind of are.

  3. I love that you and Mike are such good parents that you're trying to put a good 'spin' on a trying time - learning independence is so hard for both parents and 2-yr-old! My best advice is pray. That's not even real advice because then the answers to your prayers will be what actually helps; but it can be so easy to be caught up in the days, busy-ness and frustrations, that we forget to take a step back and ask for help in the best way to deal with some of the situations.
oh - and sign language really has been a life-saver for me when they don't speak clearly yet. I still ask Nate to sign it if I don't understand what he's saying, or ask him to tell me more about it instead of just repeating the unintelligible word again and again!
    LOVE YOU GUYS!
