You know you teach in Utah if:

Okay, I've been teaching in Utah for 6 years now and I love it! I love these kids and am constantly impressed with their goodness. Many are being raised being taught values of kindness, honesty, work, etc. Nonetheless, considering the "white, Mormon" neighborhood I teach in, I have heard and seen some funny things! Here are a few:

One of the 1st thing a student told me about herself is that "Bronco Mendenhall is in my ward!"

One student starts humming a Primary song and by lunchtime we all it stuck in our heads too

Grandparents are in cool places around the world not as tourists but missionaries

Dressing up nice is no problem because they all have church clothes in their closets

Their 8th birthday is a big one

The teacher can read Christmas stories in December and not get in trouble for it

The school chorus program includes songs from Michael McClain's Forgotten Carols

Crap and freik are bad words that I have tried to refrain from saying in front of my students

Half my students are already aunts and uncles

Cosmo visits the school every year

Discussions about last night's BYU football game are totally normal

Teaching percentages is pretty easy because they already know 10%

They all have new CTR rings in January

Last night's 30 minutes of required reading was the scriptures

We say a prayer on the food for faculty dinners (that was my last school)

90% play the piano

85% are in the school choir

For the most part, enforcing the school dress code is not a problem

I see a lot of MLM products: jewelry, Layers, Mary Kay, Scentsy, beads, Avon, Shade etc.

It's normal that I will be staying home instead of teaching next year

I'm sure I will add to the list when I go back to finish up the year--but we definately have our own little culture!
